Drug and Alcohol problems
Reliance on alcohol and other drugs can gradually creep up on you. Starts with a couple of drinks here and there and then over time finding you are now drinking most evenings or binge drinking on a night out. Substance and alcohol dependence can leave you feeling hung over the next day, anxious and constantly thinking about using or drinking, this is known as cravings. It can lead to conflict in relationships, social isolation and not going to work. Substance misuse can also be a way of masking underlying mental health symptoms.
Stress
Stress is a normal response to everyday life events. However, stress levels can become too high leaving you feeling overwhelmed and a little out of control.
Depression
Depression leaves a person feeling sad, discouraged, unmotivated with an inability to enjoy life. It can affect a sufferer’s ability to work, maintain healthy relationships with others and even perform simple day to day tasks.
Anxiety Disorders
Anxiety is characterised by persistent, excessive worrying, fear, panic and self-doubt, that is extreme for the situation. Anxiety can cause you to avoid stressful situations thereby reducing your capacity to manage tasks and relationships.
Trauma & PTSD
PTSD is a set of symptoms that may occur after a person experiences or witnesses a traumatic or life-threatening event. Trauma can leave a person feeling very fearful with a tendency to isolate and withdraw from life and relationships.
Couples Counselling
Couples counselling helps couples work through difficult relationship issues and draws the partners closer together by improving the way they interact with each other. Couples normally seek this style of counselling when they are experiencing stress in their relationship such as communication problems, increase in conflict, financial stress, parenting disagreements, sexual difficulties, jealousy or emotional distance from each other.
